Open Studio Wednesdays from 1-8pm

Bring a project to work on and enjoy a social time of creativity. Participants can leave their projects and materials at the center in their own designated drawer so you don't have to haul it up and down stairs each week.


Beginning Sculpture

Oscar Silva  Returns 
Paper making, Knotting, Wrapping and Weaving


The class will be an intermediate class, taking place over 2 days --
Saturday  April 17th 2010    from 9 - 3 
and Sunday April 18th 10 - 3 (for those who like to sleep late on Sunday)
We will be working with handmade paper, as well as utilizing knotting, wrapping, and weaving techniques-- ( working with paper can be messy so wear clothing that you don't mind getting messy)
Each student will be making a small wall hanging or small sculpture  (their choice) to take home and enjoy.
the class will be limited to 8 students
the cost is 125.00 for 2 days

Mosaic Workshop Listing for 2010

Stained Glass Mosaics

March 20th 9-4pm


$85.00 fee includes materials $25.00 material fee due with registration, balance  due  at the time of class. Beginner and Intermediate level students.

In this class we focus on glass, cutting designing and working with stained glass. We will review other artists works for inspiration. Students can bring their own project or select from a base from the instructor.

 



Glitz and Glamor Mosaics 

March 7th  from 9 am till 4pm


$100.00 - $40.00 material fee due upon registration, $60.00 at the time of class
In this class we will explore the vast array of fancy mosaic tiles, students will complete a small project using smalti, cinka, bizazza tiles, Italian glass tile, stained glass, mirror tiles and much more. A Moroccan like frame will be the project. No experience needed. Grouting of the piece is optional and students will see a demonstration of the process and be sent home with supplies or  are welcome to come back for  Open Studio the following Wednesday to complete the project with supervision.

 

Elements of Concrete

Make a bird bath or bowl with concrete,  explore working with Styrofoam as a light substrate and  create a 3 dimensional  substrate from wire armature mesh and plaster wrap.
  2 day class pick your dates  ( must be at least one week apart)
 March 13, 17th, 28,   April 11th or 24th
Cost 200.00     40.00 deposit      balance due at  class

Mosaics - The Basics - Plus

 $85.00 - $25.00 material fee due at registration, balance of 60.00 due at the time of class. Beginner and Intermediate students.

In this class you will learn the basics of mosaics, have hands on training using all of the hand tools for cutting tile, dishes, stained glass and other variety of tessarae as well as learning the  various adhesives, bases, grouts and sealers that should be used for different  applications. A variety of bases are available and you may make a project of your choice.
Returning students may bring a base to work on,  or come and take it up a notch learning more of design, structure, finishing touches and cutting your own bases.

$ 85.00 – 25.00 material fee due at registration and the balance of $60.00 due at the time of class. Beginner and Intermediate level students.
Make a  heart, serving tray, wall piece, mirror, picture frame, cross or stepping stone. The basics of broken china mosaics will be covered  including cutting, adhesives, grouting, bases and sealing. For tho
se returning students or those wanting a little bit more of a challenge we will expand on the regular class and add figurines and tea cups and other found objects to our pieces. Power tools available for learning to cut your own bases and cutting figurines and cups for projects. Grouting will be demonstrated and if time allows students can grout their projects, or materials will be sent home to complete the project.  Students can also  come to Open Studio on the following Wednesday evening to complete their projects.

All materials and tools supplied, students may bring items to incorporate into their pieces including buttons, beads, jewelry, etc.





Tempered Glass Mosaics

$85.00 fee includes materials $25.00 material fee due with registration, balance  due  at the time of class. Beginner and Intermediate level students
In this class you will learn to incorporate collage, painting, stamping and metal leafing with broken tempered glass, architectural glass and other
mosaic tessarae. (Please bring some of your favorite papers, stamps and color copies of old photographs greeting cards, magazines etc. Also bring pieces of jewelry and other small items to add to the piece if you like.)Students will complete on large project or several small ones. Grouting will be covered as a demonstration, and materials sent home for you to finish or students
can come back for Open Studio to finish under instructors guidance. Please let the instructor know you wish to attend Open Studio on the following Wednesdays.

Grouting will be demonstrated and if time allows students can grout their projects, or materials will be sent home to complete the project.  Students can also  come to Open Studio on the following Wednesday evening to complete their projects

 

 

3 D Mosaics

9am _4pm

$95.00- $25.00 material  fee due with registration  and $70.  due at the time of class. Intermediate level.
In this class you will work on a 3 dimensional project learning various adhesives and design techniques. Your choice of materials, many available including china, tile, vitreous, stone  and other tessarae. Or bring your own. Students will bring their own base or select one the instructor has available.

Deck The Walls Mosaic Mural Project

Is on hold until spring 2010. Look for more info in March


A public art project. Kids of all ages execute skateboard deck designs in mosaic to be installed at the power plaza  skate park in Smithville.

Sessions met every Thursday from 6 - 8 pm at the Mary Nichols Art Center. Participation was free and students may join in at any time.

At this time we are scheduling work days at the wall, weather permitting through the winter. Check the events page for work days......



 


 

Summer Art Camp 

Two weeks  of  exciting  art projects are being offered  by the  LPAA this summer. 

Students welcomed from first  grade on up! 

10 am  till 3pm  Monday through Friday

snacks provided,  students bring their own lunch

cost  $75.00 per week, some scholarships available

Space is limited to 24 students per week

Print making, jewelry and altered books

Week Two

Puppetmaking and performance, mosaics, personal shrines and  found object sculptures
